We believe there are two core areas to tackle, when our plate feels too full to take action on the things we really want: Mindset and Career Development.
Let's start with Mindset first.
While there are many ways to improve your mindset, here are two of our favorites:
The Kaizen Method: this method teaches us to break our actions down into the smallest possible steps to bypass the unhelpful trigger in our brain that creates a fight or flight response. When you get ready to tackle a goal, ask yourself, "what is the smallest possible action I can take here, where I'm 100% positive I can't fail." If you're unsure whether or not you can complete the task, then it's too big. If you want to learn more, here's a book, I highly recommend on this topic.
Mindfulness: using the 7 Attitudes of Mindfulness as a daily practice can help you stay grounded in all of those life moments that throw you off track. Pin this guide over your desk and check in with it at least once a day to review how you're showing up. Check out our 7 Attitudes of Mindfulness Cheatsheet here.
Now, let's move into Career Development.
Below are a few skills that may be worth looking at to help you carve out the space for some necessary career reflection or an upcoming career transition:
- Struggling with work-life balance: you may need to look at boundary setting
- Struggling with productivity: you may need to look at delegation and efficiency
- Struggling with feeling unchallenged: you may need to look at your strengths and zone of genius
- Struggling with getting through to your boss: you may need to look at your persuasion and influencing skills
- Struggling with landing that promotion: you may need to look at gaining visibility
